World Bank Operational Manager paid a courtesy call on Minister for Health

A delegation led by Michelle Keane, the World Bank’s Operations Manager for Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.
The purpose of the visit was to discuss ongoing projects and explore new areas of cooperation in the health sector, thereby strengthening their partnership.
In her address, Michelle Keane emphasized the need for reform to sustain physician assistants who have been temporarily hired to provide health care at the perfect health Center levels.
Hon. Mintah Akandoh outlined the government’s health priorities, which include the Medical Trust Fund, provision of free primary health care, construction of regional hospitals, and upgrading the second phase of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital into a teaching hospital.
He expressed hope that the World Bank would soon assist the country in strengthening its surveillance system to quickly and effectively detect emerging pandemics or epidemics and contain them.
He assured the delegate that his doors were always open and that he would give specific attention and show interest in World Bank projects and programs.
The Minister emphasized that the health sector is vital and requires strengthening, as the health of the population directly impacts the country’s productivity and economic conditions. Therefore, it is essential to allocate adequate resources to ensure quality healthcare throughout the nation.
