HONOURABLE MINISTER’S TOUR OF SOME HEALTH FACILITIES IN GREATER ACCRA REGION.

The Minister of Health, Hon. Kwaku Agyeman-Manu and some key officials of the Ministry, yesterday toured some health facilities within the Greater Accra Region. The Facilities visited included Tema General Hospital where after touring the facilities met a cross section of the staff and encouraged them to give off their best in handling patients that seek medical care.

The next point of call was the Central Medical Stores that got burnt under a bizarre circumstances, then MOH mechanical workshop, from there to the temporal Central medical workshop, from there to the temporal Central Medical store at Spintex, thereafter to the Airforce Base, where the controversial 30 ambulance vehicles procured some years back under the previous administration are parked.

The last facility visited was La General Hospital. The major concern expressed at La by management was the state of the main story building. The cracks all over the building makes continuous use of this facility very frightening.

The minister who was worried about the state of the building promised to engage AESL engineers to come and access and recommend what needs to be done. Either, to transfer services to Ridge Hospital and undertake a comprehensive refurbishing or pull it down completely. It was said, the building was put up several years ago. The building could be described as a death trap which, according to Hon. Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, something urgent must be done before another disaster occurs.
