HON. AKANDOH WELCOMES ABBOTT TEAM ON DIAGNOSTICS COLLABORATION

A delegation from Abbott, led by its Divisional Vice President for EMEA & Global Accounts, has paid a courtesy call on Ghana’s Health Minister, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, to discuss new innovations in diagnostic technology and expanded partnerships.
The team highlighted Abbott’s latest global acquisition in cancer diagnostics and introduced cutting-edge rapid testing solutions, including Africa’s first multiplex panel capable of detecting HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis in a single test.
Abbott officials also underscored the importance of innovation for Africa’s disease-control efforts and ongoing engagements with Ghana’s health stakeholders.

Health Minister Akandoh welcomed the delegation and stressed Ghana’s determination to strengthen health sovereignty following reduced external funding for key programmes.
He noted the government’s efforts to close financing gaps, improve treatment coverage, and advance mother-to-child transmission prevention, while calling for strong partnerships that deliver value for money.
The Minister encouraged Abbott to maintain an active presence in Ghana’s health sector and collaborate closely with national institutions. He highlighted the importance of innovation, equity, and global cooperation in addressing diseases that affect all populations.
